The Wedding Night Add a comment
I had my heart set on staying at the Driskill Hotel after the wedding. Well, I called them today to check availability and pricing. I gave the reservationist my date. Turns out there is a UT home football game that weekend and hotel policies require a minimum of 2-night stay during home game weekends. Also, the Bridal Suite was booked. They did however have a Contemporary Suite available. It featured hardwood floors, a balcony overlooking 6th Street, a king size bed, dual vanities, and a jacuzzi tub. And it was $600...per night!!...I guess I'll have to set my heart on something else.

I also checked out Stephen F. Austin Hotel. They aren't as expensive ($299/night with no minimum stay), but they aren't as nice either. Nor do they have any suites available on our wedding night.
They're Here Read comments
The invitations arrived at my office yesterday. They came in a huge box with all the seperate elements in individual boxes. Some assembly is required and a lot of care will need to be taken when folding the hand-made paper of the outer wrap. I was debating about using a ribbon to tie the whole thing up (as seen in the picture on-line), but the invitation barely fits in the inner envelope as it is so we'll just skip that embellishment. Which is actually a relief - it's one less decision that needs to be made (type and color of ribbon) and we don't have to tie all those bows - something I don't think I would be very good at. Instead, I'll get a wax seal to seal the outer envelope with....that should be pretty cool.
Invitation Proofs Add a comment
I just received the invitation proofs (I like the fact that I have a personal fax number at work that delivers my faxes via email). They look dandy - I think our choice of fonts was right on. Personally I dislike invitations where everything is in a hard-to-read script - especially since using numerals to write time and date is apparently considered vulgar for some bizarre etiquette reason, so you have to write out everything in words.
Invitations are Ordered Read comments
Well, we finally did it. After lots of agonizing, ordering of samples, discussing the pros and cons, changing our minds and then changing them again, we have ordered invitations. Now I'm waiting for them to fax back the proofs and then there will be the wait for the order to arrive at Jennifer's work.

I have learned way too much about invitations in the last couple of weeks - for example that it would be much easier for just one person to pick them (preferably the bride). I have also learned that the really nice ones just cost too much. Maybe we can get some of them for our 50th anniversary.

Another Hard Decision Read comments
It's really nice that there are so many options available for just about every detail involved in planning a wedding. I just wish I knew what I liked and I really wish that Step and I had tastes that were more in synch with each other. The current decision dilemma is about the invitations. I ordered some samples last week and they've finally arrived. I'm leaning towards this one because I like the layout of the inner card. Stepan is leaning towards this one because he likes the pressed flower paper that is wrapped around the inner card. I've told him that we need to choose one by the end of the weekend so we can get them ordered. My goal is to have them all ready to be mailed by August 15 at the absolute latest....preferably by August 5....we'll just have to wait and see how that goes!
Registry Envy Add a comment
Jennifer is co-hosting a wedding shower for Shannan and John tomorrow. We got to take a look at their Sears registry yesterday - so much cool stuff that I was drooling. Can I put a 12" compound miter saw on my registry? Even if I don't really need one?
Joy and Exultation Read comments
I just spoke with Father Cletus. He has secured us the use of the St. Edwards University Chapel. I asked if we could get the date confirmed in writing, but Father Cletus assures me that isn't necessary. The priest in charge has entered our date into the church calendar so we should have no worries about getting bumped for another event. My joy and relief know no bounds...my heart is racing and my hands are shaking (though that could be the Diet Coke)...I'm so glad I don't have to deal with confronting Holy Cross and the bazaar committee for space and time for our wedding. Many, many thanks to God and to the priest at St. Edwards for helping us resolve our dilema.
