Looking at Churches

Today Stepan and I went to mass at Holy Cross. It's a beautiful church with a small congregation. I'm going to call tomorrow to set up an appointment with the priest to see about getting married there. We originally looked at Holy Cross because they don't have a Saturday evening mass. It's much more intimate than St. Louis. One thing that may give some of my relatives pause is the fact that it serves a predominantly black congregation - among other indications of this is the black Jesus on the cross at the front of the church.

Zilker Clubhouse sounds great - IF we can get it.

I've finally remembered to contact Parks & Rec about their Reservation Policies for the Zilker Clubhouse. They will do one draw for all the dates in October at the end of March. They accept reservation requests for March between the 1st and 20th of the month. One individual can only submit one letter (we plan on having all our friends and family submit letters for us). This sounds like a lot of trouble and could possibly leave us without a reception venue 6 months before the wedding - and I've been told repeatedly that October is a very popular month. However the benefits of the location make it worth the effort and stress. For one thing, it has ample indoor and outdoor space. For another, it's extemely inexpensive ($300 for 7 hours with a $200 deposit as compare to $2300 for our next favorite location, the Umlauf Sculpture Garden). Also Stepan really wants to have the reception here (and really doesn't want a full service Catholic wedding), so if he can go through the service I want, I don't mind dealing with some stress to get the venue he wants....if that's not true love, I don't know what is :-)

We went to the Bridal Extravaganza on Sunday. Got lots of contacts info about locations, DJs, caterers, flowers, etc. Spending the afternoon there made eloping sound like a great option (well, not to Jennifer ;-)

Wedding Party

The wedding party is complete....or at least the adult portion is: Stepan and I will play the part of the Groom and Bride; the bridal attendants will be my siblings, Meredith (MoH), Danny, and Elizabeth; and the groomsmen will be Dominik (BM and Step's brother), Meredith O., and Carlos Garcia.
