I've made an initial appointment for me and Step to meet with the pastor at St Louis Catholic Church on December 12. I'm looking forward to going through the pre-marital counceling, but they are certainly making it hard to plan the wedding of my dreams. I was told by Father Larry's assistant that Saturday weddings at St Louis start at either 2pm, 7pm, or 7:30pm. 2pm is too early (especially if we have the wedding on the 5th considering Danny's schedule) and 7pm is too late (it would mean the reception really wouldn't start until 8:30pm or 9pm!)
Stepan and I also have to obtain updated copies of our baptism certificates "with all notations". Apparently the church you are baptized in becomes your church of record for your entire life - every time you recieve one of the sacrements it is noted there. St Louis needs the updated copy to ensure that neither one of us has been married previously. Now, this obviously isn't a problem for me (I've already contacted Our Lady of Guadalupe and they should have it in the mail for me by Friday), but Stepan was baptized in Soviet-era Czechloslovakia and we can't be sure what kind of records they were able to keep.
One last thing to check on before setting a firm date. Apparently, Danny is a groomsman in a wedding on Friday, October 4 - I need to make sure that he didn't mean "the weekend of October 4".
The time requirements from my family are finally coming in. Rafael's fall break is September 28 - October 20 and my brother would prefer for the ceremony to be between 9/29 and 10/5 (according to him, my parents can make it whenever). So if everything works out, the date will most likely be Saturday, October 5 2002. You've heard it here first!
I've finally contacted my church. It does look like it will be a big pain in the patooty to actually arrange an out-door Catholic ceremony. Step and I discussed it briefly last night - right now it's looking like we'll go the easy route (getting married in St. Louis - that's church, not the city) and try to have the reception at the Zilker Clubhouse. Here are some picture from a wedding at the clubhouse.
We went and looked at a couple of potential places for the wedding today: Umlauf Sculpture Garder, Zilker Club House, Legion of Honor and Fiesta Plaza.
Umlauf is awesome but it may be cramped for the ceremony and iffy in bad weather.
Zilker Club House has great view and lots of space, both indoors and outdoors.
Legion of Honor is kinda creepy. The building has a funky smell and the two cannons oudoors are a bit too much. PLus it's right next to MoPac.
Fiesta Plaza looks pretty big. It was locked, so we didn't get to go inside, but it looks nice. Probably too big, though.
Today I've started our wedding pages. We'll use them to keep track about our progress towards matrimonial bliss. So far, we've gotten engaged and Jennifer bought a wedding dress.
